September 5 Newsletter

We're having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave.  The temperature's rising, it isn't surprising. She certainly can can-can. (You're soooo lucky that I'm typing and not singing, trust me).
And what's better in a heat wave than a Caprese Salad (Bufala, Basil and Tomatoes).    Fresh Bufala Mozzarella arrived yesterday, and we expect Burrata to be in the shops by the time you read this.  Remember, we only stock enough for the weekend, so don't wait and you won't be disappointed.  (Alameda Natural Grocery has their heirlooms on sale, and although there's no Farmer's Market in Montclair this Sunday, there is one in Jack London Square, and they're sure to have some great tomatoes....).

Craig's in a play!  Craig's in a play!   Craig Dickerson - one of our beloved staff - is starring in a play - Frozen - at the Eureka Theatre in San Francisco.  It's been getting great reviews, and it's playing through September 17.  Call  415 255 8207 for tickets and resevations.

Mick Unti and Jeff at the Montclair Village Wine and Jazz Festival Our pal Mick Unti will be pouring wine with Jeff at this year's Jazz and Wine Fest in Montclair Village (this Sunday September 7 from 1-6).  In addition to Mick's great wines (this year he's pouring Rosé, Grenache and Zin), there'll be over 20 wineries, including Farmstead favorites Aubin/Verve, Dogwood, Esterlina/Everett Ridge, Honig, JC Cellars, and Keenan.  (We'll have a good supply of wines from the above wineries at the shop, so stop by after you taste!).

We Won!! Well, the results are in, and we won the reader's poll for Best Wine Store in Alameda Magazine!  Thanks to all who voted, and congratulations to all the other winners, especially to our neighbors Ching Hua and Feel Good Bakery!!

Charity of the Month.  Each month we select a charity and place a crock on our counter.  You put money into the crock, we double it, and send off a check.   Simple, really.  We've raised thousands of dollars for local chartiies.

This month's Charity is the  Ala Costa Center, an after school and holiday learning center for kids with developmental disabilities.  They do very important work, and you should support them.

Do you have a favorite charity (preferably small, preferably kids, illness,  or animal oriented, preferably local)?  Let us know about it.
