How About a
Great Mendo Zin
at 40% Off?!?!?
This week's selection : Edmeades Zinfandel, Mendocino, 2012, a brambly Zin that's perfect on the porch, with stews or braises, or with bold cheeses.
Edmeades Winery was one of the first wineries in the cool Anderson Valley, and has been making a comeback lately thanks to careful management and plantings.
Edmeades is famous for its limited bottlings of iconoclastic Zinfandel from the cool, coastal vineyards of Mendocino County.
Dr. Edmeades planted his first 11 acres of vineyards in 1963. He founded his winery and launched his own brand in 1972. The Jackson Family purchased Edmeades in 1988 and brought current winemaker Ben Salazar on board in 2012
Ben's approach is traditional and natural; our methods are decidedly low tech - native yeast fermentations in small, open-top bins, hand punchdowns, and minimal manipulation.
The result is a medium to full-bodied Zinfandel layered with aromas of wild blackberries, spiced plums, cherries, cracked black pepper, and clove spice. A round and lush texture, with flavors of blackberry compote and red-fleshed plum, is balance by fine tannins and a pleasing acidity. Notes of toasted oak, vanilla, cherry cola, and chocolate highlight a warm and juicy finish.
Wine Enthusiast: "This has what you're looking for in a good, dry red for dinner time, namely fruit aromas, tasty fruit flavors, full body and a firm texture of tannins and acidity. It makes a nice candidate for House Red!"
