Wine Travel Blog - Wine Adventures from Farmstead Cheeses & Wines
One of the great perks of my job is ‘hospitality’ – being able to stay at winery guest houses. Since we live so close to wine country, this is a perk I take advantage of several times per year.
It was Mrs. Cheesemonger and my 11th wedding anniversary, and we boarded the dogs and hopped in the car for the 2 hour drive to Saracina Vineyards in Hopland.
For those of you who haven’t visited Hopland – go. It’s only 30 minutes north of Healdsburg, and is an unspoilt and quite beautiful wine region, where most, if not all of the producers are making sustainable, organic, or biodynamic wines.
We love the wines at Saracina – well made, balanced and biodynamic. We carry their Atrea Old Soul red blend, a heady zin-based wine that is never cloying.
Our guest house was charming – small, elegant, and just perfect for our weekend hideaway. We walked the grounds, took some photos, drank wine, got caught up on reading and sleeping, sampled some killer pizza at Piazza (a new place in town), and toured the gardens at nearby Campovida.
We returned via Carneros, where we had a fun lunch at the Fremont diner.
